Life is all about give and take. You have to give in order to take. It means you have to pay off your hard work and sacrifice your time and money in order to be successful. Give and take is like a cycle, if you are not willing to give, you will definitely unable to take what you want. I always remind myself this throughout the whole semester.
It was definitely a different experience for me when I first enter the lecture hall and studio. My first lecture in USM was about the subject RUS 104 which is known as the Integrated Studio. All of the students from the seven disciplines will take this subject together to encourage the cooperation among the students. Besides, students have the opportunities to get to know more about other disciplines and other majors. This is to avoid students from getting to know nothing about other majors and what are they actually doing.
I have to chance to learn some new sketching and drawing skills from the lecturers and also my friends from other races. Besides I got to know how to make a sculpture or model using various materials with the aid of different kind of apparatus. During the visit to Batu Feringghi, I managed to gain some knowledge on how to do a site analysis and realise the importance of the purpose of doing the site analysis before starting to build houses and so on. When working in a group, I realise the power and significance of teamwork. We have to tolerate with each other and have to deal with every problem arises during a project. This is definitely a stepping stone to success for all of the students.
Last but not least, I am grateful to gain so much from here despite all the things that I had sacrificed. I wish to thank all the lecturers for giving so much guidance and assistance to us throughout the semester in order to shape us into a better person. I am looking forward and anticipating for the challenges in the coming semester!

Photolog
Fond Memories in Studio
All these picture are the memories of mine in the studio for my first semester. The first picture is taken when i was carrying the skyway which had been done by me and all the group members. We cooperated well and finally got our job well done. The picture below is the group photo for my group which is group 7. We had been working together from the project 8 until the last project which is project 11. The fourth picture is taken during the last day of preparation for the exhibition in the drum. We combined with Group 10 to handle the special task and once again we got the mission accomplished.
Snapshots of The Life of My Journey
These are the precious moments I spent with all my friends from the School of Housing, Building and Planning ( HBP ) . We had meals together, we hang out together and we spend time together and that's how we build our friendship and get the bond strengthened. The first semester will end very soon and we are all anticipating for the second semester! We are read to accept the challenges ahead!
Besides academic activity, I also take part in some co-curricular activities such as AIESEC and also the Chinese New Year event. By participating in all these, I managed to gain something and learn something out of the books and lectures. Getting to know more friends from different family backgrounds and races is an advantage and benefits i get by joining all these activities.
This is my beloved family. I love each and everyone of them so much. My dearest mother left us since I was 16. That brought a huge change to my life. It was definitely a turning point in my life. This picture was taken when I was 12. The one standing behind with spectacles is me. I learned how to appreciate life and things and people around me. Never take things for granted. Live your life and make every single second of your life meaningful. Life does not have take two. YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE!.
Sketches
These are the few selected sketches from my sketch book. I spent my free time to do some sketches in my sketch book. I like to draw portraits but there are definitely rooms of improvements for the first portrait that i had drawn which is the picture above. That is my idol, Cristiano Ronaldo. I love football very much. Besides,
I did spend some time to sketch some buildings and sceneries. Beautiful sceneries make one feels relaxed and rejuvenated.
The Footsteps Left Behind Along The Journey of RUS 104
PROJECT 1A : PERSONAL LOGO |
Creating our one and only logo was the first task assigned to us when we began our life as a student of the school of Housing, Building and Planning ( HBP ). After spending some time on collecting ideas and doing some sketches, this is the logo that i came up with and it resembles me, Ng Hun Jiang.
PROJECT 1B : STEWARDSHIP |
This seemed to be an impossible task for me when we were assigned to draw our self portrait for our studio project. I was used to see people drawing and sketching one's portrait along the roadside but when it comes to me, I don't know where to start. I did some researches on how to draw a portrait and finally I came up with the end product which is the picture shown above.
PROJECT 2A : AESTHETIC ( PLEASANT VIEW ) |
To be frank, I wasn't satisfied with this piece of artwork because i felt that there are still rooms of improvements for it. Anyway, this is the pleasant view of the buildings.
PROJECT 2B : DEFECT ( UNPLEASANT VIEW ) |
This is known as the defect side or the unpleasant view of the buildings which shows the negative view of it. I m trying to illustrate my ideas that the building was being destroyed and the view of it.
PROJECT 3A : NATURAL STRUCTURE |
We were required to sketch and draw the natural structure that are found in the compound of the School of Housing, Building and Planning. These are the plantation and plants that I found interesting. These are the tall trees found near the parking lot of the school compound. Tall trees stay firm and tough to withstand the strong winds and heavy downpours. I personally feel that these are the virtues that students should possess so that they will keep on trying when they fail under every circumstances.
PROJECT 3B : MAN MADE STRUCTURE |
Besides drawing the natural structure, we have to draw the man-made structure as well. This is the view of the studio, a place where most of the student of the School of Housing, Building and Planning will spend most of their time at. I had chosen this building out of so many buildings because this is the place where we spend most of our time to do our projects and it is also a place where friendships are built.
PROJECT 4 : SCULPTURE |
This is the forth project of mine. This is the first time for me to make a sculpture. The picture on the left is my sculpture. All the views of the sculpture from different angles are shown in the picture. It is a simple house with the concept of sustainability. Recycled materials are mostly used to get this sculpture done.
PROJECT 5 : BLUEPRINT |
A blueprint is a reproduction of technical drawing and documenting of architecture or an engineering design. The picture on the right is the blueprint of my sculpture. It contains the plan, front view, rear view ( both left and right ). We were advised to prepare our blueprint in the scale of 1 : 4 . After doing some researches and seeking advices from my studio coordinator, Dr Radzi, I finally get it done.
PROJECT 6 : PROJECT DEVELOPMENT |
In our project 6, we were assigned to prepare the flow and mind mapping of the project development and also the roles of the certain actors in a project. I had prepare the roles of a project manager from the stage of appraisal until the last stage which is post-construction completion with the reference to the RIBA Outline Plan of Work 2007. RIBA stands for Royal Institute of British Architects.
PROJECT 7 : INTERLINKED |
There is a slight difference in the project 7 from all the projects that i had done. We were grouped into a group of five. What we have to do is design a skyway which also known as the pedestrian bridge between the studio and also the lecture hall E48A to provide shelter and comfort for the pedestrians. We had to submit 3 pieces of work, there are project 7A, 7B and 7C. For the part A, we did the site analysis for the School of Housing, Building and Planning whereas for the part B we did the blueprint for our skyway. Lastly, we managed to get our pedestrian bridge built!
This was totally a great experience for me in the Project 8. Project 8 contains two parts which is 8A and 8B. The part 8A is all about the community facility and tourism activity in Batu Feringghi while part 8B is about the environmental & spatial analysis. We boarded the few buses and departed to Batu Feringghi early in the morning. We walked around and did the site analysis. We had BBQ dinner and night walk during the night time. After all, it was a memorable yet meaningful day. We learned how to do the site analysis regarding to the community facility and tourism activity and also the environmental & spatial analysis. We did some sketches of the building along the roadside as we walked by.
PROJECT 8 : ( RE )VISITED |
PROJECT 9 : INTEGRATED
This is last project that will be done in the studio before our exhibition or awards night. After doing the site analysis at Batu Feringghi, we are assigned to design an Information Centre at Batu Feringghi to provide services to the tourists. Compound and spaces that have to be found inside the information centres are verandah, sales area, lobby, toilet and so on. Besides that, we also have to consider the handicapped. We have to design the rim for them to use and also toilets with special facilities inside. Fire alarm and other fire prevention system have to be installed to ensure the safety of the information centre as well.
PROJECT 10 : EXHIBITION |
We undergone the process of regrouping in the project. We mere merged together with Group 10 to handle the special task which is setting up the stage and also the audio system for the purpose of the opening ceremony on that day. The small picture at the top right corner of the second picture shows the view of our hardwork. The theme of the exhibition is colourful dominos. As such, things and decorations were done based on this youthful and energetic theme. There were quite a number of people visited the 'drum' and the whole exhibition was rated high by the lecturers. This is what keeps all of us marching on to the path of success.
